Sainsburys home insurance promises significant savings on home insurance and also offers double Nectar points for claim-free buildings and contents cover customers. Sainsburys describes it as a "fair price", but we found premiums to be more than fair: with free legal expenses cover, emergency cover and accidental damage cover you get a lot for your money.

Sainsburys home insurance offers three kinds of discount. Apply online and you get 5% off your premium; get both buildings and contents insurance and get up to 20% off your premium (the site says 15% but the online form says 20%) and if you've been claim-free for five years you can qualify for up to 30% no claims discount. A higher, 40% discount is available with no claims protection for an additional fee.

The application form is clear and very quick to complete, and the premiums were reasonable: our suburban couple would pay £19.89 per month, with free accidental damage cover thrown in. That sum includes home emergency cover and legal expenses cover too.
