Norwich Union home insurance offers reasonable premiums, but won't provide buildings cover for flats. The quote form is simple enough but can be flaky: it crashed our browser on two different computers, and it was only when we dug out a third machine that we finally got our quotes.

Norwich Union home insurance is available at half price to people with 5 or more years no claims bonus. Those who do not qualify can still get up to 15% discount on its usual rates for online booking. The quotation form is reasonably simple – however, we encountered lots of problems with the site: the quote form crashed our browser on two separate machines.

With a third computer we finally managed to get some prices, and they were reasonable if not exceptional with the usual £50 excess: £274.78 for our urban couple's contents insurance, and £298.17 for our suburban family's buildings and contents insurance.

Check the small print carefully: Norwich Union Home Insurance will cover flats and maisonettes for contents insurance, but not buildings insurance.
