Norwich Union car insurance are proud to say they insure one in 5 UK drivers- which means they’re popular, but if you bump into another NU driver, chances are they’ll try to split the claim, and you’ll lose your no-claims bonus. This is a major problem with big insurers.

That aside, the site is garish, but efficient and helpful. You can save quotes for later, get a quick quote before progressing further, and (uniquely) select whether you would like foreign driving cover and courtesy car. However, when we tried to use the service, neither the quick quote system, nor the full quote worked. Very disappointing for a company of NU’s size; irritating to the user, and not much good for making comparisons- which is what online quotes are all about.

On the plus side, there aren’t too many restrictions to application, and they claim to offer up to a 70% no-claims bonus. Benefits are unexceptional (for example audio and satnav up to £500- you can find £1000 elsewhere and a glass excess of £60- the norm is £50)

In summary, you may well need to phone up, and unless the price is remarkably low, try elsewhere before buying.
