NFU insurance don’t offer an online quote system, but don’t let that put you off. If you live in town, look elsewhere, but if you’re out of the major cities, give the NFU a call- there’s lots on offer.

As well as motor insurance (with special policies for 4x4s) they also offer specialist policies for caravans, horseboxes, tractors and vintage vehicles.

But the real value is in the cover. If your new car is stolen or written off within two years of purchase, you will receive a brand new one. Personal effects cover is a healthy £250; and roadside assistance is free. Legal cover is free, and audio equipment is covered to £500. If your car keys are stolen, NFU will replace your locks and keys- a nice touch.

There are enforced excesses for under-24s, but even they are not draconian, and anyone living in a rural area should try to get a quote from NFU as a benchmark before looking elsewhere.
