Before providing a quote, Insure.co.uk Car Insurance uses a few quick questions to find out whether it's worth bothering with the whole thing. In both cases it told us not to bother, although the final quote for our Corsa driver was reasonably low.

Insure.co.uk Car Insurance takes a very unusual approach: instead of endless form-filling, it asks you a few quick questions about your age, car type and occupation, and then tells you whether it's worth going any further. In the case of our Corsa driver and our 4x4 owner, the site gave us the blunt message: "Unfortunately insure.co.uk has not been able to offer you the most competitive motor quote available" and presented us with a list of other insurers to try instead. You can't fault the site's honesty, although it does make you wonder whether the company has any customers. We persevered anyway, and received a quote of £407.50 for our Corsa owner (without no claims bonus protection but including legal cover). The site would not quote for our 4x4 as it could not find the model in its database.
