The no-frills retailer offers a surprisingly good package at a rock bottom price. An ASDA car insurance policy includes a guaranteed no-claims bonus for life, breakdown cover for cars under eight years old and all-year-round European travel cover as standard, although additional options can add a lot to the price of your policy.

ASDA car insurance offers two options: a 20-broker price comparison search, or Asda's own, online-only Exclusive cover. This offers guaranteed no claims bonus for life (once you have 5 years NCD), breakdown cover for cars younger than eight, all-year European travel cover and the ability to cover up to four cars on a single policy.

As you might expect from a low-cost retailer, ASDA car insurance isn't particularly expensive: for a Mondeo-driving suburban dad with a clean licence, cover with a guaranteed no claims bonus was a reasonable £383.21 on a £250 standard excess. Cutting the excess to £100 put the basic premium up to £416.61, and if you also want key cover, hire car cover and European breakdown assistance they'll add a further £110 to your premium.
