Admiral Insurance offer deals targeted at inner-city drivers, although they will of course cover most drivers. Coverage is available for ages 17 to 70.

They are particularly flexible about payment- as well as instalment options (and an instalment protection policy), they offer a payment holiday scheme if you want a month off- ideal if you’re short after Christmas for example. You can also increase your excess for a lower premium.

A courtesy car is available for Admiral insured drivers (but the site is unclear about whether it’s free or not- be sure to ask); and you won’t get one during a claim for theft. On the plus side, extended courtesy cover is remarkably cheap.

An interesting touch is an online claim form- but it’s complicated to fill in, doesn’t allow you to draw diagrams, and you’ll need lots of information from the third party. Better is the change form which lets you easily change cover details without calling up.
