Tesco Life Insurance
Clear and concise until you get to the online application… which doesn’t always work.
Website: Tesco Life Insurance
The Tesco Life Insurance suite includes term life and decreasing term life products, with a good range allowance (two to 50 years). You can also bolt on critical illness cover too. It’s unbeatable for simplicity but definitely not the cheapest on the market. If you want a quick deal, supermarkets are great; if you’re the shop around type, go elsewhere.
All the supermarkets are opening financial services arms, and the emphasis is on simplicity. By the way, Tesco isn’t a financially regulated company- so the Tesco Life Insurance products are actually offered by Norwich Union. The site isn’t designed for people who’ve thought through their finances- there’s a term life product, a decreasing (mortgage cover) product, or you can select “I don’t know what I want…”! There’s also a critical illness option on all policies.
Ignore the rates comparisons (anyone can pick some more expensive policies!) but there are some nice touches like a “how much cover do I need” calculator, which should be expanded to really show how important life cover is. The guide documentation is also very clear, if a little patronising to anyone who can do joined up handwriting.
Tesco Life Insurance products are available from 2 to 50 years, to anyone over 18 and under 90 years of age (a remarkably high barrier) at the policy expiry. Unfortunately, we were let down at the online application system, which failed to work. Try calling them instead on 0845 845 1477, or go into your nearest store.
