Small business health insurance
Should you ask your employer to provide health insurance?
If you work for a small business health insurance may still be an option - especially if your employer isn't too enamoured with the idea of offering a pay rise. Insurers can offer policies to businesses that work out much cheaper than if you were to apply individually.
If you work for a small business health insurance may seem like something only bigger employers offer their staff, but that's not necessarily the case. If you're one of two employees then your firm won't be able to benefit from group discounts, but slightly larger firms may be pleasantly surprised.
Small business health insurance benefits from economies of scale: the more people the firm wants to insure, the cheaper each policy will be. For you, that means the price of your policy could be much lower than if you were to approach the insurer as an individual, and your employer may find that offering such insurance as part of a pay package could help make the firm more attractive to new recruits - and could improve the morale of existing staff.
