As you'd expect from one of the UK's leading insurers, Norwich Union Health Insurance offers a range of products and provides an incredible amount of detail: for example, it's one of the few insurers to be up-front and tell you that private health insurance won't cover existing conditions, routine examinations, normal pregnancy and childbirth. In most cases Norwich Union Health Insurance won't pay for psychiatric treatment, although it does cover expensive options such as MRI scans and radiotherapy.

Norwich Union Health Insurance offers two packages: Fair+Square, which gives you the option of choosing between private and NHS care, and Trust Care, which delivers private treatment. With Fair+Square you get money if you opt to stay in an NHS hospital (£500 for the first night, £250 per night thereafter). If you want the lowest premiums, the Fair+Square Starter plan excludes most out-patient treatment but includes the essentials.
