Zurich advises motorists on potential fuel shortages

Zurich is offering advice to motorists who fear petrol shortages due to potential demonstrations and nationwide blockades could stop them from going to work.

Amid the increasing petrol prices, with over £1 per litre being charged in some parts of the country, more and more people are getting worried that protests could prevent them from obtaining fuel.

However, Zurich is warning that the answer is not to store it at home, but that should people wish to do so, it must be done legally and safely.

Individuals may not store more than 20 litres of petrol at home, and this must be stored in two ten litre metal petrol containers.

If plastic containers are used, it can be no more than two five litre containers.

All containers must be marked with "PETROLEUM" and "HIGHLY FLAMMABLE".

Furthermore, Zurich advises that all containers must be stored in a shed or garage not attached to the main dwelling.
