Halifax mortgages win top award

Halifax mortgages have been named the best at an awards ceremony held last week.

The group was named Best Overall Lender at Legal & General's Mortgage Club Awards, held at the Savoy in London.

The lenders were judged according to criteria including products, service, sales and marketing and also e-business capability.

Other winners included Northern Rock for Best Lender for Products, with Halifax scooping Best Lender for Service and Best Lender for Technology along with the top prize.

The awards were voted for by members of the Legal & General Mortgage Club, which delivers nearly £0.5 million a week of mortgage applications to lenders.

Graham Newitt, managing director intermediary solutions, said: "The concept of the Mortgage Club is all about partnership, which is at the heart of Legal & General's strategy in the housing market.

"The Mortgage Club plays a critical part in our multi-channel distribution strategy, which brings together the products and services of banks and building societies, intermediaries and Legal & General."

The club is made up of specialist mortgage intermediaries including Independent Financial Advisers and Legal & General's business partners.
