Halifax house insurance warns cohabiters

Individuals sharing their homes are being warned about their home insurance in a new report.

Halifax General Insurance has said that becoming flat or housemates will double occupants household possessions. However, most people fail to update their policies accordingly.

According to Halifax failure to get the adequate cover can prove to be costly.

Halifax General Insurance's head of marketing, David Norton, said: "It is vital that people in this situation re-assess their insurance needs, especially for any heirlooms or collectibles, to ensure that everything in the new shared home is covered."

The Halifax also advised people to review their home security if they increase the amount of property in their household, even if they do not share their houses with others.
