Alliance & Leicester insurances reveals inadequate cover

Alliance & Leicester insurance has discovered that almost half of Britons do not have sufficient life insurance cover.

According to the building society's wealth tracker index only four per cent of Britons have cover for their utility bills and only 25 per cent have protection for credit card repayments.

In spite of this the monthly out goings of the average Briton are over £1,400.

Alliance & Leicester's product manager, Sarah Ennion, urged consumers to prepare themselves for the worst and cover more than just their mortgage repayment should they die or be taken ill.

"If the main income earner in a family died or was unable to work due to illness, the household bills would continue to come in, the car loan would still need to be paid and so would the children's school fees," added Ms Ennion.
