AA savings survey released
Brits are highly secretive about their savings activities, according to new research.
A survey by AA Personal Finance found that nearly two thirds of people don't tell their partners why they are saving.
Even more surprising was the fact that one in 12 keep their savings accounts secret altogether.
"Savings habits present an interesting insight into social behaviour," said Lloyd East, director of AA Personal Finance. "But what is surprising is the high number who keep their savings plans a secret."
The survey also revealed that a "rainy day" was the main reason people put money aside, suggesting that Brits are uncertain about the future.
This comes as the government looks to encourage more people to save. There is growing concern that Britain's 'live for today' culture will lead to a financial meltdown for millions of people in years to come.
