More Than covers Christmas spend
More Than is offering its home insurance customers a £6,000 Christmas bonus, as it advises consumers to make sure that they have seasonal goodies covered.
The increase in the value of household contents over Christmas, due to frenzied present, food and drink buying, could mean that homeowners do not have sufficient insurance cover.
To help make sure its customers do not miss out, More Than has increased its home insurance cover by ten per cent (£6,000) over the festive season.
Spending increases by £10 billion during December, the insurer comments, and so it has released tips to help protect the extra contents in the nation's homes.
John Hollis, head of home insurance at More Than, said: "We tend to splash out on presents and food at this time of the year and therefore have more valuable items in our homes.
"A typical home has contents worth £44,500, but over Christmas this could be much higher. This should be a happy time but sadly accidents and thefts do occur so it's important people make sure they are not underinsured."
More Than's Christmas tips tell consumers to make sure their insurance policies cover the contents of the freezer, in case there is a power cut, to ensure homes are secure over the holiday period and that milk and papers are cancelled and valuables secured if holidays are taken.
More Than also advises people to check that insurance policies cover "domestic emergencies".
