Survey reveals people desire debt help
A survey by Debt Free Direct, the independent advice service, has shown a high level of concern over rising interest rates and a worrying gap in knowledge about debt help.
DFD found that Londoners were the most worried about debt, with 43 per cent concerned about their future ability to pay off debts.
Respondents in the southeast and East Anglia were the most care free, with, a still significant, 28 per cent troubled.
DFD CEO Andrew Redmond said: "Our research shows that the recent increase in interest rates are taking their toll as 865,000 people have considered or are considering filing for bankruptcy."
He added: "In our experience many people with serious debt problems do not take out the most appropriate solution for their needs."
Levels of debt, especially credit card debt, have risen dramatically in recent years in the UK, prompting regulators to call for 'health warnings' on statements.
