Snow bunnies urged to get American Express winter sports cover

With thousands of skiers and snowboarders injured all over the world annually, American Express has issued some guidelines to ensure you are financially covered on the slopes.

First off, being a beginner puts you more at risk, despite the fact that you'll be travelling more slowly.

Research has shown that 25 per cent of all snowboarding injuries occur the first time someone stands on a board, while half of all accidents occur in a beginner's first season.

Meanwhile, American Express winter sports cover will cover experts looking to try their luck off-piste, but beginners and intermediate level thrill-seekers will have to obtain extra cover.

And despite the fact that many believe an E111 will suffice, American Express has warned that this only offers basic medical cover, or a reduction in costs, across the EU.

It also does not cover countries such as Bulgaria, and in the unfortunate event that an airlift rescue is needed, the E111 will not offer compensation.
