Health insurance quote
The steps you can take to prune your premiums
If you want the lowest possible health insurance quote, you can often opt for a higher excess payment. This means that you will pay a certain amount towards the cost of treatment, although when you reach the limit of your excess the insurer will step in and pay 100%.
One way to get an ultra-low health insurance quote is to specify an excess, which means you'll pay towards the cost of claims. Excesses vary between insurers: with cash plans you'll find that the excess is usually expressed as a percentage, so for example you would pay 50% of your dentist bill and claim the other 50% from the insurer; with medical insurance, the excess is usually an annual fee such as £1,000 or £5,000.
The higher the excess, the lower your health insurance quote - but if you do require treatment, then you'll need to stump up some cash. If you're not confident that you'll have sufficient money in the bank to cover your excess, it may be sensible to pay slightly more each month and have no excess at all.
