Health insurance cover
Why no two health insurance policies are identical
There is no such thing as standard health insurance cover: different policies cover different things, and the levels of cover offered by different insurers can vary dramatically. It's very important to read the policy details carefully to make sure there are no nasty surprises lurking in the small print.
Choosing health insurance cover isn't just a case of looking for the lowest price. Different companies offer very different packages, and the products offered by even a single firm can differ dramatically. Some forms of treatment are generally excluded, while others are only available in the most expensive packages.
As standard, health insurance cover will generally pay for hospital care, consultant fees, surgery and so on, and in most cases it will also pay for cancer treatment such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, psychiatric treatment is usually only covered - if it's covered at all - by the most expensive plans, and you should also check the "in-patient" and "out-patient" sections carefully. You'll often find that some expensive treatments are only covered if you're an in-patient, especially with budget health insurance cover.
