Esure home insurance does its best to weed out high-risk applicants – nightclub and bar staff, anyone connected with the jewellery or gambling industries and so on – but if you qualify, the premiums are extremely low: our urban couple were quoted £163.30 for £23,000 of contents insurance and our suburban family £151.28 for £125,500 of buildings and £22,600 of contents insurance.

With Esure home insurance you get a 10% discount for online ordering and you can adjust the voluntary excesses of £100 buildings and £50 contents to reduce your premium further. The usual additions – accidental damage protection etc – are available, and the standard policy includes cover for Xmas and wedding presents.
