Barclaycard Travel Insurance offers single and annual multi-trip travel insurance, and you can also obtain winter sports cover. The site promises 10% discount if you buy online, and under 18s are covered free of charge (as long as a parent is covered and travelling).

Provided by the UK operation of US company Chartis, Inc., Barclaycard Travel Insurance offers all the cover you would expect from a major insurance company, but at a price: our sample quote for annual worldwide cover came in at £79.05.

Chartis won "Most Client Responsive Insurer" of the Year 2010 though, so you may find that the level of service warrants the top-end premium. They are themselves a division of AIG, the US giant bailed out back in 2008.

The quote system itself is painless enough, and in addition to single and multi-trip options, you can also choose between single traveller, couple, family, or unrelated group cover. Barclaycard Travel Insurance is available up to the age of 74, which is pretty standard. A number of countries are excluded - check their website for an up to date list.
