Abbey National Home Insurance offers a typically complex quote form, but to save you time there's also a price guide that gives you an idea of what your premium is likely to be. There's a scary disclaimer to wade through before you can get a quote: do you have a criminal record, are you an arsonist, that sort of thing.

The quote form itself can be funny: we couldn't find a way of entering self-employment under our occupation, and when we said that our premises would be used for business the form wouldn't accept any of our "type of business" entries – or give any indication of what was acceptable.

We encountered problems with the burglar alarm field, too: it simply refused to work on two different computers, and as a result we were unable to obtain quotes from Abbey National Home Insurance for our professional couple or our family.
